Karee Blunt, Co-Founder, is married to Rodney, her high school sweetheart, and lives in beautiful Washington State. (Although she grew up in Texas and visits “home” as often as she can!) They have five children, ages 8-22, three of whom are adopted (two from Russia, one from China). Karee and Rodney also have a financial ministry they use to coach families on how to develop a budget, get out of debt and build up their savings. Karee has taught classes and held workshops specifically for women, teaching them how to create and manage a budget. It was through this ministry that she conducted personal and online surveys and found that groceries were the number one budget buster for most households. Her hope is that Build A Menu will help many families be able to plan their meals and stay within their grocery budget each week. Karee’s degree is in Business/Marketing, which she enjoys using to help promote Build A Menu.
Lisa Holcomb, Co-Founder, lives near Austin, Texas with her husband, Will, and their four boys, ages 14-23. (Her oldest two children are married and have babies of their own.) She and Will adopted their youngest two boys through the Texas foster care system. Lisa often finds that living in a house full of boys means she’d better be ahead of the game when it comes to planning dinner since they’re almost always hungry! They are quite happy to be one of Build A Menu’s test kitchens. Lisa’s degree is in Child and Family Development and she is a strong advocate for family meal time. She has spent many hours researching the positive effects and benefits of families that eat meals together as well as the negative effects not eating together as a family can have on children and teens and she hopes to help educate families on this research. Her goal is that through Build A Menu families will be able to bring meal time back to the table.
